Roundtable Discussion

The Round Table Discussion is tailored for singles ages 35 to 50 years of age. They gather on the Third Thursday quarterly. Three topics are explored: economics, current events and relationships. Introductions are a big part of the agenda. All attendees are given the opportunity to participate by drawing a prepared question and delivering their perspective. Responses are timed by a monitor. Individuals get to know each other in this informal yet thought-provoking setting.

Mastermind Group

The IYMS Master Mind group consists of approximately (20) persons who meet regularly in order to provide support and encouragement and to believe for each other things which each, alone, may find difficult to conceive for himself/herself. When the individuals' requests are properly made of the Master Mind, the solutions occur in a most amazing way.

The areas of concentration for the IYMS Master Mind group are: spiritual, family, health, educational, recreational, financial, and professional.

The IYMS Master Mind group will begin on Saturday, March 31, 2007. It will be held from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in Cuyahoga County (location TBA).

The agenda will be as follows:

I. Prayer
II. Introductions
III. Breakfast
IV. Goal Setting Review
V. Reading Assignment
VI. Progress Reports
VII. Affirmations

Clean Your Closets Campaign

The Clean Your Closets Campaign is held annually during the second week of April. Anyone can participate. The targeted (15) States include: California, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin.

The reason for this community service project is: “It is better to give than to receive.” The goal is achieved by each person compiling donations of clothing and shoes. Participants place items in at least (1) 30 gallon garbage bag. Donations are delivered to the nearest Battered/Abused or Homeless shelter in the area. Participants then register their participation via email with IYMS, Inc. Their names are then highlighted in the spring issue of the Positive Perspectives newsletter and each person receives a Certificate of Participation.

Word of Mouth Blood Drive

During the second week of July, the Word of Mouth Blood Drive is made successful by individuals across the nation forwarding information about the need to donate blood. This need is significant around the holidays because there is usually a shortage of donations thereby depleting the American blood supply for emergencies. Participants make blood donations at local agencies in their community. They report back to IYMS, Inc. via email and receive a Certificate of Appreciation for their participation. The area with the most participants is highlighted in the Positive Perspectives newsletter.

A Woman's Worth Conference

The annual A Woman’s Worth Conference (AWWC) will be initiated in the spring of 2007. In an effort to examine contemporary challenges facing African American women and historicize their struggles while also celebrating their contributions to society from a spiritual perspective. Topics are explored through a panel discussion, question and answer session and concludes with a phenomenal keynote speaker. Each year the conference will focus on a theme relevant to the enhancement of African American women in an effort to offer information that can be used to educate and empower them. In order to promote dialogue on theses issues, prominent African Americans from the local and national community are invited to participate in the conference. It is IYMS's goal to involve groups and individuals from both the local and business community as both participants and audience for the conference.
